Rachel Chudley

Rachel Chudley is an interior designer based in London, where she founded her eponymous studio in 2015. With a style best characterised as ‘contemporary baroque’, she creates singular, storied spaces defined by art, colour, and unexpected details.

Rachel and her team work on bespoke residential and commercial projects from the intimate to the expansive – compact apartments and medieval palazzos – both in the UK and around the world.

Rachel Chudley trained in the History of Art at London’s Courtauld Gallery before shifting her focus to interior design. Her fascination with perspective, colour balance, and defining details endures, shaping the rich, radical, and refined spaces she creates now, in collaboration with her clients.

Pulling at the loose thread, she loves to trace esoteric ideas back to their most fundamental form; an approach which has led her to outline the rising morning sun on a bedroom wall, or to transpose a map in extra-large format across a house’s ground floor. Always, in Rachel’s work, there is a story.

Colour

Rachel Chudley is fascinated by colour. Her passion led her to Donald Kaufman, the master colourist (and her father-in-law) who has formulated paints for some of the 20th century’s most respected artists and designers.

Working closely with the esteemed artist and colour consultant for many years, Rachel learned to use the full spectrum of pigments to create coloured paints – a complex and rarefied process in which art and science meet. The result: dynamic and luminous surfaces, which respond to their environment.

In her interior design, Rachel’s sensitive, joyful and theatrical palettes sing of her command of colour. From Warm White and Soft Black to Complicated Purple and Deep Berry Red, the studio team - which now include her mother Elizabeth and brother George - draws on decades of experience to develop luxury interior paints for its bespoke clients.

Now, through Rachel Chudley Colour, the designer is proud to make a growing collection of signature hues available to a wider audience.

Finding the perfect single shade for each space is integral to my design process. Colours wrap a room and influence how we perceive it.
— Rachel Chudley
